Here is a simple recipe for sugar cookies:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (226 grams) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200 grams) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups (375 grams) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until well combined.
- Divide the dough in half and wrap each half in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out one half of the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Optional: You can also decorate the cookies with icing or sprinkles after they have cooled. Enjoy!
