A breakfast casserole is a dish made by layering ingredients in a baking dish and cooking them in the oven.

The ingredients typically include bread or potatoes, eggs, milk, cheese, and a variety of meats and vegetables. The dish can be assembled the night before and refrigerated until ready to bake, making it a convenient option for busy mornings or for serving a crowd. Here is a basic recipe for a breakfast casserole:

Ingredients:

  • 8 slices of bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 1 cup diced ham, bacon, or sausage
  • 1 cup diced bell peppers, onions, and/or mushrooms (optional)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. Add a pinch of salt and pepper.
  3. Arrange the bread cubes in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Top with the diced meat and vegetables (if using).
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the top of the bread and meat. Sprinkle the cheese over the top.
  5. Bake the casserole for 35-40 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the top is golden brown.
  6. Serve the casserole hot, with additional cheese, hot sauce, or other toppings as desired.

You can also customize this recipe by using different types of bread, meats, and vegetables to suit your taste. Some other ingredients that can be added to a breakfast casserole include diced potatoes, spinach, tomato, and herbs. Enjoy!
